Removal of "2012"

[edit]

I think that 2012 should be removed. If these attacks and protests continue past 2012, then we should add it back. JC · Talk · Contributions 00:43, 20 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Looking at this page in 2014, there was no indication whatsoever about what year these dates are referring to. That would seem to be important. I added a section on events "Before September 2012, to make this clear. Empiricism (talk) 03:00, 29 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Exact date of the broadcast of the clip on Egyptian TV

[edit]

I found these four news sources that put the date of the broadcast of the 2-minute clip on Al-Nas TV network, on Sept 8:

But the Innocence of Muslims article gives the date as Sept 9, based on this source:

I think the Innocence of Muslims article needs to be corrected ... but I'd like to be sure. This is probably easily settled by looking for a date displayed or crawled on the broadcast video, which was uploaded to YouTube (on Sept 9). Both The Wire and Daily Beast articles include the embedded YouTube clip. I can see a time-stamp on the video, but I don't see a date. If someone who reads Arabic better than I, can see a datestamp on the video, that would settle this. Empiricism (talk) 03:44, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Update: Found another source that states the date of the TV broadcast as Sept 9:

  • McClatchey DC (This refers to "last Sunday" ... which would indicate 9/9.)

(Note: This one is used as the source for a Forbes article on the subject.)

Is it possible that the host made this the topic on both nights? (Pundits do that.)

Also, if someone familiar with Sheikh Khalad Abdalla (the host of the show) knows if the show broadcasts on Saturday or Sunday (or both), that would be helpful. Empiricism (talk) 04:34, 30 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Events regarding the identity of 'Sam Bacile'

[edit]

Almost all of my additions were to the events leading up to the Sept 11 protest in Cairo, including the chronology of when the video was posted on YouTube , how the video caught the attention of the Arabic-speaking world (via newspaper, TV broadcast, and online), and why the reaction started in Cairo, and was initially directed at the Copts, the U.S., and American pastor Terry Jones.

I did not add, remove, or edit any of the events uncovering the identity of 'Sam Bacile' as expat Egyptian Copt, Nakoula Basseley Nakoula. While interesting, I am questioning the relevance of these events to the reaction to the film. It would be relevant to the anti-Copt reaction in Egypt IF the chronology showed that the identity of the filmmaker as an expat Coptic Egyptian was in the media reports by the time of the Cairo protests. But the chronology (as currently written) does not show this information becoming public until Sept 13. Until then, the filmmaker Nakoula falsely identified himself as 'Sam Bacile', an Israeli-American. Instead, the Coptic connection to the film (as well as the connection to the U.S. and to Terry Jones) was established by the promotion of the film by (Egyptian-American and Coptic activist) Morris Sadek.
