Objections to Use of Music in Interrogations
[edit]Since the quote says that Cerf objected to the use of "songs from the children's show," the article should specify which tv program.
Also, is "softening the prisoners" an accurate description in light of the article's use of the terms "breaking the prisoner" and "break the will of"? Ileanadu (talk) 14:58, 18 August 2010 (UTC)

Requested move 16 July 2018
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: withdrawn by nominator. The school administrator article will still be moved to Christopher Cerf (school administrator), however. (closed by non-admin page mover) GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 17:42, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
- Christopher Cerf (producer) → Christopher Cerf
- Christopher Cerf (school administrator and businessman) → Chris Cerf
– The sesame street writer is the primary topic for "Christopher Cerf" --- Coffeeandcrumbs 20:38, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
- This is a contested technical request (permalink). GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 14:53, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- Also Christopher Cerf (school administrator and businessman) (currently a redirect to Christopher Cerf (school administrator)) → Chris Cerf (currently a redirect instead to Christopher Cerf) – The politian and school admin is the primary topic for "Chris Cerf", I will add a hatnote to both to complete the moves. --- Coffeeandcrumbs 20:38, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
- What is the basis for'Chris Cerf'. The article calls him Christopher. — Frayæ (Talk/Spjall) 20:57, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Frayae: The basis is WP:COMMONNAME per [1]. Admittedly, the schools guy is just as often referred to as Chris or Christopher. But Chris is a good disambiguation, since the Sesame Street guy is very rarely called Chris especially in WorldCat where he has 406 author credits as Christopher and 58 as Chris--- Coffeeandcrumbs 23:19, 15 July 2018 (UTC)
- Oppose. Chris Cerf should continue to redirect to the Christopher Cerf disambiguation page. Anyone searching for either of the men, will see both links and will be able to decide on the basis of the parenthetical qualifier in each article's main title header. Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 00:09, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- @Roman Spinner: O.K. that makes sense. Do you have any suggestions on how to shorten these parenthetical qualifiers. They seem a little ridiculous. I was thinking just "television producer" and "school administrator". I am not very familiar with Sesame Street people. What was he most know for? Should we just do "Christopher Cerf (Sesame Street)"? --- Coffeeandcrumbs 00:54, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- Or maybe even just "television"--- Coffeeandcrumbs 01:00, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- No, he is not a television. We don't "disambiguate" that way. A disambiguation that introduces another ambiguity is a failure. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 03:01, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- Christopher Cerf (producer) will obviously work for one. The other has been moved in the interim to Christopher Cerf (school administrator and attorney); he is not notable as an attorney only as an education department bureaucrat (if notable at all), thus Christopher Cerf (school administrator) will do. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 03:01, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- @SMcCandlish: Moved the producer as you suggested. There is a redirect blocking me at Christopher Cerf (school administrator) from when an SPA came in to make a mess. Can you or someone else with pagemove rights make that move?--- Coffeeandcrumbs 03:28, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- I'll defer to the RM admins on that one; not sure if they want to make this be a full RM discussion (I wouldn't). — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 03:32, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

- User talk:Coffeeandcrumbs: Anything and everything can be made more concise. If we were to insist on one-word qualifiers, there could be Christopher Cerf (author), Christopher Cerf (writer) or Christopher Cerf (producer). The younger Christopher Cerf has been most notable as Christopher Cerf (school administrator) or simply Christopher Cerf (administrator). Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 04:41, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- "Administrator" by itself is too vague, like "doctor", which we also don't use. We don't insist on one-world qualifiers, they're just preferable when one is available and clear enough for WP:PRECISE and WP:RECOGNIZABLE. — SMcCandlish ☏ ¢ 😼 12:44, 16 July 2018 (UTC)

- Oppose We are not cryptic-pedia. Either way Chris/Christopher is not a meaningful distinction here. In ictu oculi (talk) 08:54, 16 July 2018 (UTC)
- Withdrawn though I still wish the qualifier was shortened to Christopher Cerf (school administrator) (currently a redirect) per discussion above.--- Coffeeandcrumbs 06:27, 18 July 2018 (UTC)
