This post is largely based on promotional material from her law firm -- http://72.30.186.56/search/cache?ei=UTF-8&p=christine+varney+law+firm&type=yahoo_avg_hs2-tb-web_us&fr=yhs-avg&partnerid=yhs-avg&u=www.hhlaw.com/cvarney&w=christine+chris+tina+varney+law+firm+firms&d=XOSbVhlMTDD8&icp=1&.intl=us.

Is her White House nomination press release considered an acceptable source? While I can understand that normal employee bios are not so good, I presume that the White House release has been vetted for accuracy or would have been corrected during the confirmation process. I'm going to source some of the unsourced information to the White House, but feel free to delte if that's considered unacceptable. Hickoryhillster (talk) 21:00, 26 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I don't see any reason to give more credence to the White House release than to what her law firm put out. They are both essentially promotional material. I don't see a problem in sourcing the White House, though, as long as the obvious hype is removed. In a routine confirmation nothing gets corrected. As she develops a record in her current position, this post may acquire more content. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Janon2 (talkcontribs) 21:53, 13 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wanted to explain some of the changes I made to the Varney page, since I added/moved a lot of information. I wanted to organize/structure this page somehow, and I decided to go with areas that Varney has been involved with throughout her career. Specific changes:

1) Added the layout/structure 2) Placed most of the previous Varney page under Life and Career, and structured the information in reverse-chronological order 3) Added several sections to the page 4) Deleted (in later changes) some of the information that was not cited or sourced -- this included the description of what Varney did as Assistant to the President/Secretary of the Cabinet. I was unable to find this description in a published source. 5) Just FYI, a lot of the sources are either newspaper periodicals or speeches given by Varney during her career at the FTC and DOJ

Problems:

I'm new to wikipedia editing, so some of the changes may not be formatted correctly (will try to fix the cites that are messy)

Please tell me if you find substantive issues with the information I added to the page. Cheers,
