Before comedy?

[edit]

At school, I was told by one of my close friends that Chris Lilley used to be a after school teacher, teaching drama sometimes. Wondering if someone could do some further research into this? Thanks, andrewrox424 Bleep 07:21, 10 September 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gay?

[edit]

I heard somewhere that Chris Lilley was gay?
I think it might've even been on Wikipedia, but I'm not sure. Could someone do some reasearch into this?

if you did even a moments research you could find out for your self, how lazy —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.210.157.17 (talk) 09:08, 8 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]
I recall reading an article (if I can find it I will link to it) about him living with his girlfriend. Just because he plays a (probably) gay character as Mr G, and female characters such as Ja'mie doesn't mean he has to be gay. He's just a very good method actor.
His sexuality is also pretty irrelevant to his acting and writing anyway.
Here's the article: [1] —Preceding unsigned comment added by 121.219.253.234 (talk) 13:46, 5 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Section on Ja'mie King

[edit]

Ja'mie is discussed on the articles relevent to the 2 shows she is featured in and does not need to be discussed here. Mr. G on the other hand is a character Lilley has portrayed in several sketch comedy shows and is a suitable addition to this article. The KZA 06:06, 9 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Phrasing

[edit]

I find the line "best known for portraying numerous characters in the series..." to be a bit misleading, as if there were other prominent characters that he didn't play, or that he wasn't the star. Anyone want to try rephrasing it? Perhaps make it "his" series, or leave out the reference to various characters as that is covered in some detail below? Nshady16 12:41, 7 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Brothers?

[edit]

What does this mean? "...twin brothers in which one confusedly gives his brothers his ear drum to cure his hearing disabled brother..."--Pharod42 22:15, 3 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Fixed, hopefully it makes more sense now. Nshady16 (talk) 04:04, 12 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Bigbitemrg.jpg

[edit]

Image:Bigbitemrg.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. BetacommandBot (talk) 04:39, 12 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From Sydney

[edit]

He may have been born and grown up in Sydney, but hasn't he lived in Melbourne for some years now? That deserves a mention; it's at least as relevant as where his early upbringing happened. -- JackofOz (talk) 00:21, 27 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Photos

[edit]

There are numerous photos that could be used in this article. Because i am not "established" i cannot upload photos. Could i ask that somebody upload photos from these website the various sections of the articles? They are below:

Summer Heights High Section: http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2008/04/07/chris_lilley_logie_narrowweb__300x450,0.jpg We Can Be Heroes Section: http://www.livenews.com.au/static/articles/9891/F_0_summerheights_characters_sm.jpg

Article photos are still being discussed. Thank you. Chrislilleyfanatic (talk) 14:03, 4 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Girlfriend

[edit]

Is it really relevant that he broke up with his long-term girlfriend and currently resides in a particular place? I decided to be bold and remove it. It's not referenced, anyway. Icemotoboy (talk) 04:02, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Okay, I take that back. It is referenced! Still not sure if it's relevant... but I'm not removing it. Icemotoboy (talk) 04:03, 5 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

ABC?

[edit]

There's a reference mentioning Lilley developing a new series for ABC, mentioned right after talk of his tour of the USA. So the question is, is it the American ABC or the Australian ABC? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 124.148.177.74 (talk) 11:56, 4 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Birth date

[edit]

The birthdate 10 November 1974 was added in this edit of 21 January 2009, without any citation, and by an unregistered editor whose sole contribution to Wikipedia this was.

That date now appears in a gazillion places online - but how many of them copied it from here?

There are also hits for 15 April 1975 and 25 April 1975. Mushroom Music Publishing seems to think he was born in 1975.

Is there any independent verification of Chris Lilley’s birth date? -- Jack of Oz [your turn] 08:25, 17 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I can't find a reliable source that mentions his date of birth. I'd say it might be a good idea to remove it. Melonkelon (talk) 23:29, 7 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Done. Thanks. -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 00:16, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Although I couldn't find a source that states his birth date, I found multiple sources [2][3][4] that say he was 33 as of 2008, so the Birth based on age as of date template could be used. Melonkelon (talk) 00:56, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
Didn't realise you'd already changed it. Melonkelon (talk) 00:58, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]
I said I'd done it. Keep up.  :) -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 01:43, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Reference? Relevance? Phrasing?

[edit]

This sentence trips me up for all of the reasons I give in the headline: "Although being widely acknowledged as being talentless Lilley has somehow managed to be involved in three shows."

Widely acknowledged by whom? Talentless in terms of... stand up, acting, writing? The phrase "...three shows" is also vague despite that the paragraph goes on to explain (live shows? stand up shows? filmed comedy? sit-coms?)

The most grave, grievous, egregious and unforgivable error is one you didn't mention: the absence of a comma between 'talentless' and 'Lilley'. At first take, it reads as if it's talking about someone called "talentless Lilley", but then the reader notices the absence of a pronoun to go with "has somehow managed", and has to go back and re-read the sentence and realise what's going on, and that it should have been punctuated "Although being widely acknowledged as being talentless, Lilley has somehow managed ...". -- Jack of Oz [pleasantries] 00:22, 8 June 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Orphaned references in Chris Lilley (comedian)

[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Chris Lilley (comedian)'s orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.
