The Start of his Vocation
[edit]I was senior WO of the Alleyn's School CCF Battalion in the early 1970s, and also knew Chris through the School Photograhy Club. Quite early on in his service with the Unit (all pupils being required to do two years' in training) he came to me with moral qualms about the use - or rather abuse - of military power, to which I replied that that awareness in and of itself made him extremely qualified to continue in the career, that although there may be times when raw force can cause terrible things to happen, competent command means this should be at the very least greatly mitigated and if possible avoided. The depth of the discussion revealed his character of great humanity as well as committed conscience. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 176.253.27.152 (talk) 11:12, 28 December 2014 (UTC)
