Notability discussion

[edit]

This article appears to fail or be on the borderline of the notability of musical ensembles. Of the 12 criteria presently listed for notability, the article fails to immediately pass only two (#6 and #10).

Criteria #6 that the group "is an ensemble which contains two or more independently notable musicians, or is a musician who has been a member of two or more independently notable ensembles." Pink is certainly notable. Chrissy Conway currently has a Wikipedia article but that page itself seems of questionable notability. The third member does not have a Wikipedia article and I will assume not notable. In my estimation this group only had one indisputable notable musician: Pink. She, however, has not been a member of "two or more independently notable ensembles". It seems this article fails criteria Number 6.

Criteria #10 states, "has performed music for a work of media that is notable, e.g., a theme for a network television show, performance in a television show or notable film, inclusion on a notable compilation album, etc. (But if this is the only claim, it is probably more appropriate to have a mention in the main article and redirect to that article.)". The group's song on the Kazaam soundtrack is pretty much their only claim to fame. That song however did not chart at any appreciable level. This suggests that the band should merely have a redirect to the Kazaam soundtrack page.

I understand and sympathize with both the inclusionist and deletionist points of view at Wikipedia. If the criteria for notability are inconclusive, what does good old common sense say? If you are an inclusionist, the opinion would be to keep because of the weight of Pink's membership. If you are a deletionist, this was a unremarkable group with no remarkable, encyclopedic accomplishments in and of itself and should be deleted.

It seems an acceptable solution to me to have the page link to the Kazaam soundtrack and/or have a small paragraph in Pink's article about her early musical undertakings. Jason Quinn (talk) 17:46, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I update my statement about Chrissy Conway. Her band ZOEgirl is not immediately classifiable as unnoteworthy but may be of borderline notability. If ZOEgirl is notable (and that is dependent on if you consider the Gospel Music Association a "major" music award) then this article is notable. Jason Quinn (talk) 18:02, 10 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
