Splitting proposal
I propose that section History be split into a separate page called Choctaw history. This article is three times larger than the recommended size for an article and is essentially unreadable. Creating Choctaw history will help users better find the subjects they are researching. @Robfergusonjr, Parkwells, Robertbruceferguson, Cdjp1, and User-duck:: Yuchitown (talk) 20:50, 24 October 2021 (UTC)Yuchitown
- Support - That was a read and a half. It's not necessarily an issue for someone that wants to read about the history of the Choctaw nor is it an issue for someone used to reading a lot but it could be an issue for most readers wanting a more brief synopsis. I agree the best approach is to split this section into its own article and possibly write a brief synopsis with a wiki-link to the newly created article for more details. If I am around at the time, I will gladly help in this endeavor should my assistance be needed. --ARoseWolf 14:48, 25 October 2021 (UTC)
- Support, with reservations. While I agree that the article needs to be split, we need to discuss other ways to do that. Articles about other of the Southeast tribal nations, for instance, tend to address the people as a whole in one article, but after Removal or other major events that split the people's development into what have become independent federally recognized tribes, have articles based on those tribes, timeframes and geography. The Choctaw who removed to Indian Territory followed different paths politically and culturally compared to those who remained in Mississippi and became US citizens, and later federally recognized tribes in the South. Let's think further about how to do this.--Parkwells (talk) 16:20, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
- You bring up excellent points @Parkwells and I think we should consider those when splitting the article into two. This could turn into three or four articles depending on the decision but I definitely think we are capable and it is doable. --ARoseWolf 19:27, 26 October 2021 (UTC)
- Support. It would be possible to create multiple history articles to cover the different parts of the tribe mentioned by Parkwells, and add links to all those articles to the main version.Vizjim (talk) 07:04, 2 November 2021 (UTC)
- Support. Sounds good. I can give little effort cause of my other non-wiki projects take up all my time these days. --Robert Bruce Ferguson 7 November 2021
- Support, but it may be preferable to title the page History of the Choctaw to be consistent with the naming scheme of other Wikipedia articles. VideōEtCorrigō (talk) 22:37, 18 March 2022 (UTC)
