Proposed merge with Chocolate cake

[edit]

The French article for "gateaux au chocolate" takes this as the top level cake for any kind of chocolate cake. Accordingly, it links e.g. the the english version chocolate cake and the german equivalent article. Some googling for chocolate gateau returns all sorts of chocolate based cake recipes e.g. a black forest cake a type of chocolate gateau. As such, what may be called a chocolate gateau can be creamy or not too creamy. Although the oxford english dictionary calls a gateaux a typically creamy and rich, layered cake, the picture added in this article actually shows the ambiguity as what I see is more of a sponge cake. The linked recipe (if it's an adequate ref is another question), also shows the recipe of more of a dry, spongy cake, contradicting the definition for what a 'gateau' in English is. The history for both cakes also reads similar, so I believe it's not necessarily worth having both articles. This may just be a POV fork. pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 08:15, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Looking back, It seems to me I made things unneccesarily difficult. No real objections, but I honestly thought this was a separate type of cake. Kleuske (talk) 14:55, 18 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
This source I added to the article covers chocolate gateau fondant icing. North America1000 10:00, 19 August 2017 (UTC)[reply]
@Northamerica1000: this merger request has been around for a month now. It seems there are no additional comments. I was wondering if you have any thoughts about the merger? If not, I was going to go ahead to move whatever contents there may be that is not already covered and place a redirect from Chocolate gateau to Chocolate cake. pseudonym Jake Brockman talk 08:41, 18 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]
