Early career

[edit]

Although I don't have Internet-accessible Trenton Times records as they are on microfilm (if available at all, I distinctly remember his name called over the PA system at Trenton Speedway as a race starter in either 1978 or `79, as I was a teenager growing up in Cherry Hill, NJ; and my family attended all the Trenton races from 1968 when we moved back from Indy, as well as the final two USAC Champ Car races at Langhorne Speedway in 1969 & `70 won by [Bobby].

If anyone reading this has access to the Trenton Times microfilm archives — possibly which exist at the Trenton Library — please research this, as the race dates were April 23rd & September 23rd, 1978, sanctioned by USAC, and June 10th & August 19th, 1979, sanctioned by CART. Perhaps the USAC archives on 16th St in Speedway also has the records of the two 1978 races.

Incidentally, I worked for Sure Products on Olden Ave. in Trenton in the summer of 1980 when company owner Sid Sussman won at auction the recently-closed Trenton Fairgrounds from circus promoter George A. Hamid's estate; and we gathered around the small TV in the office to see the announcement.
