Renaming as Type 001A aircraft carrier
[edit]The current title seems to be redundant and falls out of the name scheme of other PLAN classes. I will move this page to Type 001A aircraft carrier if there is no objection. -Mys_721tx (talk) 00:29, 31 October 2016 (UTC)
- Isn't that the class name? Shouldn't this be a ship article instead of a class article? -- 70.51.200.162 (talk) 03:52, 1 May 2017 (UTC)

[edit]I have reverted this edit to restore this version of the article. I think that version is more complete in the details of construction, and contains significantly less uncited text; the other version also has an entirely unreferenced infobox, which appears to be largely copied from Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning, which is not an exact match for this ship, as the design has been modified. Type
[edit]Apparently 002 is the official code of this project with 003 being the official code of the next aircraft carrier. — Preceding unsigned comment added by ChineseToTheBone (talk • contribs) 03:20, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
- Source? - BilCat (talk) 06:58, 23 August 2017 (UTC)
do you even need source? it is already in all the official media and text. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 101.127.42.241 (talk) 09:33, 18 November 2019 (UTC)
Differences between Type 001 and Type 001A

- The diagram for Type 001A has Kuznetsov's cylindrical mast, Kuznetsov's phased arraies, 24 Kinzhal launchers, 8 Kashtan CIWS that were labeled as HQ-10 launchers, 12 Granit ports, and 2 catapults. This poorly-made diagram is probably indicative of the quality of the article.-Mys_721tx (talk) 01:18, 12 December 2017 (UTC)
Good accurate description of Type 001A

Shandong is Type 002 not 001A
[edit]As per CCTV and the PLAN: http://news.cctv.com/2019/12/17/ARTIQwxfxdh6Wi4o7Tt8aNzV191217.shtml?spm=C96370.PsikHJQ1ICOX.Em32AuyOHUeL.11 Watch the video at 0:43. Says "002 Aircraft carrier commissioning ceremony". Nebakin (talk) 15:42, 17 December 2019 (UTC)
- All credible sources state Type 001A, not Type 002. Type 002 is CATOBAR design, already under construction and scheduled for commission in the late 2020s. --Markscheider (talk) 06:10, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
- I don't know what "credible" sources can or will be more credible than the PLAN's commissioning ceremony attended by President Xi himself. Nebakin (talk) 06:27, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
All credible sources state Type 002, not 001A. State television broadcasts of the commissioning ceremony and articles by the official PLA website confirm this designation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jQjgwBG3O-A — Preceding unsigned comment added by 73.71.135.55 (talk) 06:30, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
- Thanks! It is at 0:21 specifically, this the same video that I've shared. Since this is the latest confirmation and by the PLAN themselves, I or whoever can change it later on if there are no other legitimate objections or counter-proof. Nebakin (talk) 06:37, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
- Is that the class type number or another number? Per FlightGlobal, among other sources, the Type number is "Type 001A". A flag without any explanation is original research. We have an article at Type 002 aircraft carrier about the next class, not this one, so let's make sure we're changing the right thing first. - BilCat (talk) 06:54, 18 December 2019 (UTC)
- "002 Aircraft Carrier Commissioning Ceremony" is what it says. The Shandong itself is no.17, thus 002 is now the class type number. Chinese net have long refer "001A" as 002 for months now. Even a Singaporean Chinese paper and HK newspaper calls it the "type 002".

- *PLA's official web shows this same video we've showed, the ceremony was done by the PLAN and attended by President Xi and broadcast by CCTV as mentioned, it is as authoritative a source as it can be. I don't think we can place any sources above the PLAN's own designation nor call it "original research", are we now saying the PLAN is not a credible source over what it calls its own ships? http://www.chinamil.com.cn/sydbt/2019-12/17/content_9697841.htm
