@BilCat: - Thanks for the relevant policy citation. I guess that policy is relatively clear and would suggest we shouldn't use a prefix here. Is sorta confusing what's meant by "official prefix" though. For instance, if the US only officially uses "USS" as the prefix for commissioned ships, why is USS Enterprise (CVN-65) a USS? It would feel better if all PRC PLAN ships were labelled as "PLAN ship xyz", like PLAN aircraft carrier Liaoning. This would also show the ships that are naval as separate from some random ship registered in China, as "Chinese ship xyz" is just that; Or "Chinese ship xyz" should be replaced by "Chinese naval ship xyz" when it is a naval ship (and for all other countries using this format). I will note post military use of demilitarized former warships, so there's also that distinction. We should note that reader facing content like page titles are not something that some statement of "Nation ship" means naval ship could convey to the readership, or in a searchbox. -- 65.94.170.207 (talk) 12:58, 16 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]
