- I don't think this is correct: "The Republic of China boycotted the Olympics in 1976 and 1980 after not being allowed to compete under the name Republic of China." The PRC (mainland China) boycotted the 1976 Olympics over Taiwan being allowed to compete under the name Republic of China. Then, Taiwan boycotted the 1980 Olympics over PRC forcing them to compete under a different name. You can also see this from the fact that Taiwan did compete at the 1976 Olympics: (see Republic of China at the 1976 Winter Olympics).
