Historical
[edit]I wrote this article because there is historical significance of this neighborhood. There is a lot of material on this subject matter that is worth looking into and documenting. --PeterWalla89 (talk) 04:53, 11 January 2015 (UTC)

[edit]Hello, I've never requested an edit before, but I made an account because I realized there was a significant error on this page. Let me know if I've made this request incorrectly.

- Specific text to be added or removed: remove Sing Lee
- Reason for the change: His name was actually Look Young. He worked for Sing Lee laundry. This error has been made many times before and is well documented. See the bottom of History Colorado's article. Dr. William Wei, who is cited on the page, has a book, Asians in Colorado where he talks about how Sing Lee was misidentified (pp.138-139). Denver Public Library's blog post, which is also cited, also makes this clarification about halfway down. There is primary source material from a Chinese consulate who was sent to investigate the riots that also comments on this misidentification, see Report of F. A. Bee, Chinese consul in the third link below. I can provide additional citations if necessary.

- Hi, is there a way to have this reviewed again? The name is wrong. It is well documented that it is wrong. Please look at the sources linked, which recognize that this man is missnamed.
- From the History Colorado article:
- "Correction: An earlier version of this article misidentified the man who was killed as Sing Lee. His name was Look Young. He worked at the Sing Lee Laundry and early reports conflated the two."
- From the primary source material from the US Office of the Historian:
- [Inclosure 2.]
- Mr. Bee to the Chinese ministers.
- Sirs: I have the honor to inform your excellencies that I have obtained the following facts in reference to the Chinaman who was so brutally murdered by the mob at the city of Denver, State of Colorado, on the 31st day of October, 1880.
- The name of the deceased was Look Young, and employed at the Sing Lee laundry.
- From the Denver Public Library Special Collections and Archives:
- "When the riot finally died down, a Chinese man who is commonly referred to as Sing Lee, but was actually named Look Young, had been murdered, dozens were severely injured, and Denver’s Chinatown had been all but erased. "
- There is overwhelming evidence supporting that this information is incorrect. SushiHam (talk) 21:13, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

[edit]In the third paragraph of the “migration to Denver” section the last sentence reads “public health became another excuse to oust chinamen from the city” the term “chinaman” is a racial slur. Since this is not a direct quote, it is inappropriate to be used in this article. Jwaitsel (talk) 21:23, 21 October 2024 (UTC)
