During the Zimbabwean liberation struggle, Chimoio was the location of one of the worst atrocities that the Rhodesian army perpetrated against the black Zimbabweans at a refugee camp there. Thousands were killed, most of them unarmed women and children. It is widely believed that a former freedom fighter become informant called Nyathi, was responsible for the betrayal that caught the camp unawares. Its also widely believed that Nyathi was stabbed, murdered in broad day light in 1980 after independence at Mbare Musika, the biggest market place in Zimbabwe. Colony?

[edit]

Dear Licor, since when was the status of Mozambique as a Portuguese colony a matter of "point of view"? I think most historians would agree that Mozambique was a Portuguese colony, "de facto" even if its "de jure" status was cosmetically changed to an overseas province (and later even to state) to fend off international criticism. I think we should call things by their proper name. Teixant (talk) 10:27, 25 August 2008 (UTC)[reply]
