The Wambars of the Qemant
[edit]The article says that the Qemant have two chief priests, at Chilga and at Tekle Dingay, and that the one at Chilga pays visits to the other, who does not return them, as he is of higher rank. The source for this statement is dated in the 1950s. F. Gamst, who did anthropological fieldwork among the Qemant in the early 1960s, said that there had been two chief political and religious leaders, called wambars, one at Chelga and the chief at Karkar. In 1955 the last Wambar of Karkar died, and since then there has been only one wambar, at Chelga. Is Karkar now called Tekle Dingay, and is this statement more than fifty years out of date? - I just noticed your comment. The information in this article is drawn from a site in Sweden which is a compilation of earlier published accounts, so it is very likely that the statement you question is out of date. (Getting information which is both current & accurate about the ethnic groups in Ethiopia can be a challenge.) Let me see what I can do to update this, although it may take a while. -- llywrch (talk) 18:48, 11 March 2010 (UTC)
