The subject of the article
[edit]This article was originally written about a type of meat-filled pastry sold by bakeries in Pakistan. Later, other food items that are also called by the name "chicken patty" were added, such as a hamburger-like patty of ground chicken meat, or a chicken version of the Jamaican patty. The lead was changed to read "A chicken patty may refer to one of several chicken-based dishes." However, Wikipedia is not a dictionary. In general, we don't write articles about "a term that refers to" - see WP:REFERSTO. We don't group together several very different things into one article, just because they are different senses of a particular word or term. An article should be about the thing itself, not its name. Similarly-named things that are not the same as each other belong in different articles, which are disambiguated.
I have removed the material about hamburger-like chicken patties, because they are obviously unrelated to the original subject of the article. I have also removed the sections about Jamaican and Haitian patties, because I haven't been able to find evidence of a direct link between the dishes. The article is about a chicken-filled puff pastry dish. I'm currently looking for more information about the Pakistani dish, and any other very closely-related dishes that should be included in this article. It may be that there is a larger article where it fits, for example puff pastries from the same region that are made with various ingredients besides chicken, or dishes in other regions that can be shown to be directly related. It may also be that there is a more common name that should be used for the dish/article. Suggestions are welcome. --IamNotU (talk) 03:46, 17 March 2020 (UTC)
