a question
[edit]who added the note that shows up when you try to edit notable persons and by what authority do you add it? Shouldn't that be on this page where it can be seen and commented on rather than hidden?Gtwfan52 (talk) 01:41, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
- I did. You can find out who adds something by viewing the History Section tab at the top right of each page. The note deters vandalism and self promotion at the point of editing, which is common on Notable people lists. Command-line notes or "Hidden" notes as you called them, are a common practice on Wikipedia. Dkriegls (talk) 03:50, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
- This particular warning was developed based on guidelines reach through a consensus of editors from the Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities group and Wikipedia:WikiProject Lists group. You can find the relevant guidelines for Notable people sections of US cities at the Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline#Notable people. Consensus discussions can be found here, and an older discussion here
- Not sure why you removed your comments, but I agreed. Check out my edit adding the Kentucky Derby winner back in. I encourage you to make a Biography page for this person. It really doesn't take much. Just grab the codex from another derby winner, and fill in the blanks. I hope this resolves any bad feelings :) Dkriegls (talk) 08:05, 4 April 2012 (UTC)
- There were no bad feelings on my part. I removed my comments because what research I was able to do showed that the jockey in question was in fact from Canada, not Chicago Ridge.[1] Gtwfan52 (talk) 03:03, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
- To bad it doesn't say what town in Canada. All this effort between the two of us and now where to put it. I'll just leave the listing here for future reference. Who knows, you might stumble across a hometown :) Dkriegls (talk) 07:09, 9 April 2012 (UTC)
