Not sure if it's useful but http://www.physorg.com/news/2010-11-vapor-relieves-cold-symptoms-children.html indicates that chest rubs (specifically Vicks VapoRub) "provided significantly greater relief as measured by cough frequency, cough severity, congestion and the child's ability to sleep" with a common side effect being "a burning sensation of the skin". --Joshtek (talk) 12:38, 8 November 2010 (UTC)
