On a related note, I'm confused as to the policy on pronouns. I understand Wikipedia's formatting policy is to abide by preferred pronouns, but does this extend to quotes as well? The quotes cited in this article have also had pronouns modified or omitted as indicated by the bracketing. Shouldn't those remain as they were at the time? Yes. Transgender people are commonly referred to by their current name and pronouns for their entire life, and it is common practice to also retroactively "correct" quotations like this. Wikipedia has also adopted this practice by consensus, see WP:GID: "Paraphrase, elide, or use square brackets to replace portions of quotations to avoid deadnaming or misgendering, except in rare cases where exact wording cannot be avoided, as where there is a pun on the notable former name, etc." -- Maddy from Celeste (WAVEDASH) 21:06, 19 October 2024 (UTC)[reply]
