Discussion of AfD
[edit]Khoikhoi, why is this page being considered for deletion?
How is it any different from the following entries?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Quixote_%28software%29
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Python_programming_language
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruby_On_Rails
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smarty
- The difference is that you're advertising. Wikipedia is not a vehicle for advertsing your products. It looks like the article is not going to be deleted, but would you be able to fix this article so it doesn't sound like a big self-promotion page? Look at the links that you just mentioned for examples on how to write articles without advertising. --Khoikhoi 03:18, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Khoikhoi, thanks for replying. Were you aware that this is an open source project not a product that anyone derives profit from? What specifically would you suggest removing? - Tavis Rudd --64.69.80.177 03:30, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- “I'm enamored with Cheetah”
- --Sam Ruby, senior member of IBM's Emerging Technologies Group & director of Apache Software Foundation
- “Give Cheetah a try. You won't regret it. ... Cheetah is a truly powerful system. ... Cheetah is a serious contender for the 'best of breed' Python templating.”
- --Alex Martelli, Google uber techie, core Python developer & author of several popular Python books
Fair enough. However, note that both of those quotes were added *after* the 'afd' marker was inserted. Tavis Rudd --64.69.80.177 03:38, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- Ok, thanks. --Khoikhoi 03:39, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
What's the procedure now for getting rid of the 'afd' marker? Tavis Rudd --64.69.80.177 03:41, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- You should just wait until the voting has closed, which can be a few days or so. --Khoikhoi 03:45, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Pardon my ignorance but where does the voting take place and who gets to vote? This whole procedure seems rather opaque to me. I don't see why a simple edit to remove any perceived 'self-promo' wouldn't have sufficed. Tavis Rudd --64.69.80.177 03:51, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
- It's ok. Click on the this article's entry link on the page. --Khoikhoi 04:03, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Who decides when when voting is closed?
- An administrator. --Khoikhoi 08:51, 13 January 2006 (UTC)
Quarl, I disagree with your last edit. It is widely used for code generation. See http://bosco.tigris.org/ and this interview http://www.codegeneration.net/tiki-read_article.php?articleId=39:
- I ran across Cheetah, 'a Python-powered template engine and code generator', and haven't looked back since. ... it was a breeze to crank out several templates in a short period of time. In only a few hours a night, over three nights, I was able to learn enough about Python and Cheetah to write a code generator that generates my POJOs, DAOs, and WebWork2 action classes. ... Given my recent experience with Python and Cheetah, I can't imagine an easier way to generate code! -- Peter White, in that interview

The code generation article currently confuses code generation as the compiler phase after lexing, parsing, and before assembly, with layman use of the phrase "code generation" for anything that generates source code. I initially assumed the article was about compiler code generation only. See talk there. I will fix the code gen article later. I'm okay with leaving it in Category:Code generation for now. —Quarl (talk) 2006-01-14 02:01Z
