name changes
[edit]I don't really like the last name unilaterally picked for this article. The contributor said that "terrorist chatter" is the most common name for this phenomenon. How do you know this? It seems to me that it is most commonly used unmodified -- referred to simply as "chatter". And, as such, if the contributor thought that chatter (al qaeda) was too specific, he should have renamed the article something like chatter (terrorist). Truthfully though I haven't heard the term applied to any other terrorist groups beside al qaeda. -- Geo Swan 08:25, 16 July 2006 (UTC)
- No need to worry much about who got consulted in naming the article as Chatter (terrorist), but a change of name may indeed be helpful. Far as I know, the term stems from 20th century military traffic analysis of encrypted messages that cannot be decrypted but can be counted. Only in the new century did the term's use burst out into non military use in connection with terrorism. I would prefer a broader term, perhaps something like Chatter(signal intelligence).
