Chasseur = Ranger

[edit]

In this article the French Chasseur à pied units are refered to in English as 'Hunter.' The analogue English term, however is 'Ranger.'

Units recruited from woodsmen, poachers and with the civilian occupation of hunter (gamesmen) were named: Rangers. Light infantry primarily tasked with skirmishing and as marksmen.

I propose the term Hunter be replaced with Ranger.

the reference to the civil war is not relevant and likely to have been added by someone who just read of the american chasseurs in some civil war book —Preceding unsigned comment added by 173.34.27.132 (talk) 01:08, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]
