holy advertisements, batman!! 67.149.255.0 07:16, 16 October 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Christ, you said it. They may as well have an advertising jingle playing in the background. I'm going to fix this now. Nach0king 20:35, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Mind if I ask what was on the page?--Golden kintaro 21:06, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Upps... completely forgot about page history... heh, that was some pretty lurid advertising... and quite fluffed up, as I work at a Charley's myself... --Golden kintaro 21:19, 27 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Merge

[edit]

Seems like this was copy&paste forked to Charley's instead of redirecting. I've moved the content back here and redirected Charley's to here. Quarl (talk) 2007-01-01 21:52Z

Name of "Charley"

[edit]

From reading a sign that illustrated the history of the restaurant at the Ohio State University, I learned that the name of the founder is Charley Shin. This can be found on the website:

POV

[edit]

I don't have the time or inclination to do this, but even being cleaned up some, this page reeks of advertisement, or at least is POV and uncyclopedic. I've fixed some obvious things (changing "mom" to "mother"), but the article seems extremely informal. It makes it hard to assume good faith when I read the sentence: "All steak and chicken sandwiches feature USDA Choice meats and real dairy cheese along with a variety of fresh grilled vegetables" (emphasis mine). Also, the article states, "Charley's specializes in fresh, made-to-order grilled subs capitalizing on recent health food trends," (emphasis mine) but it fails to provide a balanced criticism that their Phillies have nearly 1500 mg of sodium [1], even though "the FDA and USDA state that...'meal type' products [that have the claim 'healthy'] must not exceed 600 mg sodium per labeled serving size." While I agree that their subs seem to exceed sensible recommendations, singling out one sub's one nutrient, then listing guidelines elsewhere that do not mention the chain is improper synthesis (WP:SYN). In a world with CSPI, Consumer's Union and such, we should be able to find a source covering this. - SummerPhD (talk) 17:58, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed. While I'm looking for that, I've removed the fact that Charley was 14 when he moved to the US from the history section. It's irrelevant unless it has some bearing on the restaurant itself. Also, the article stated "Customer requests for more locations prompted Charley to start franchising," but the sourced material does not say this, and implies that the choice to franchise was due to Charley's unwillingness to open only 1 or 2 restaurants a year. Also, the article stated that Charley's had locations in "39 states and 11 countries, including...Guam." I removed Guam, as it is not state, and it is not a country, and there's no cited source for its inclusion. I'm not on a personal vendetta against Charley's. I happen to enjoy the food, but let's be realistic here. Customers seeing their food being cooked is a "trademark"? Seriously? Or is it a "hallmark". "Trademark" has certain legal connotations. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 97.113.116.173 (talk) 21:09, 28 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]
