In November 2016 a consultative group persuaded the NZ Government to give $4 million to remember the NZ Land Wars of the 1860s after agitation from some secondary school girls from Otorohanga . The group decide on 28th October, the day the Independence document was signed by northern chiefs to stop Charles de Thierry claiming any title. The document was signed 27 years prior to the land wars and has no clear connection. There was no violence or ill feeling associated with the signing, which was latter superseded by the Treaty of Waitangi. 115.188.198.190 (talk) 06:53, 8 November 2016 (UTC)[reply]
