His income

[edit]

What does;

"The increasing demand for his services may be judged by his fees which averaged $15,000 a year from 1862-1872, $50,000 in the next decade, $80,000 in the third, and in 1893-1894, his last year of practice, reached $150,000"

mean?

If he was working in London why was he paid in dollars? Is this his pound salary converted to dollars, whose dollars, at the 1894 rate, 2005 rate?

If he was earning £150,000 in 1894 this is over £11 million in 2005 values. Likewise, if his salary in 1894 was equivalent to £150,000 today, he was only earning £2,000 in 1894. Avalon 02:34, 16 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I have found the sterling figures and put these in. The figures are appear to be conversions to dollars at a contemporary rate of 4/- per dollar ($5=£1). Peterkingiron (talk) 15:44, 9 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Nationality

[edit]

Russell was not of Anglo-Irish lineage, the article explicitly states that the family had suffered (implicitly under the Penal Laws) because of their Roman Catholicism. Please see Anglo-Irish. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 85.210.214.143 (talk) 12:23, 11 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
