Reported death
[edit]There is a report on Facebook that he died "sometime in May". https://www.facebook.com/milton.davis.52/posts/10214005770897028?__tn__=%2CO*F I'm seeking confirmation. --Orange Mike | Talk 02:59, 4 September 2020 (UTC)
- Locus is a reliable source, but I'd really like some mundane sourcing as well. --Orange Mike | Talk 21:25, 4 September 2020 (UTC)
- Milton John Davis of MVmedia seems like a reputable source. https://twitter.com/Thegriot/status/1301603336567902214 Whateley23 (talk) 06:39, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Whateley23: Please familiarize yourself with WP:TWITTER. This tweet cannot be cited as a source because it involves claims about third parties. NedFausa (talk) 06:44, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Orangemike: Please note that the same WP:SOCIALMEDIA policy noted in my preceding reply applies equally to Facebook. As for Locus, it states that Saunders "reportedly died in May 2020" but fails to indicate who reported it. We cannot cite such a vague announcement. For Wikipedia to declare someone dead, we must have at least one solid reference. NedFausa (talk) 07:07, 5 September 2020 (UTC)
- Black Gate magazine, also have no set date.Hyju (talk) 22:28, 9 September 2020 (UTC)
- And another well-intentioned editor, sourcing to something called "celebritiesdeaths.com" which in turn vaguely says "posted on social media". That's not WP:RS. --Orange Mike | Talk 16:48, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
- CBC reported on his death, and his burial in an unmarked grave (modern equivalent of a potters field). [1] --Orange Mike | Talk 15:01, 2 January 2021 (UTC)
- His friends collected money and the grave is now marked.[2][failed verification] Schazjmd (talk) 21:37, 4 January 2021 (UTC)
- @Orangemike, how does that fail verification? The source states:
He worked with a group of Saunders's friends and collaborators in the U.S. and Canada, including several journalists at CBC, to right the wrong. The group set up a fundraiser and within 24 hours, hundreds of people had donated thousands of dollars. The group ordered a tombstone for Saunders. They also created a stone monument to Imaro that will feature original artwork from Mshindo, a celebrated American artist of Afro-futurism who created iconic covers for the Imaro books. It will stand facing his grave.
Schazjmd (talk) 18:47, 12 November 2023 (UTC)- Cite is in future tense: tombstone "will stand". Was it ever made? erected? (IIRC, I donated to that fundraiser myself.) --Orange Mike | Talk 18:50, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- Got it. A post would have been clearer than a template. I've asked Tattrie via twitter when it was installed and if any media mentions it. Schazjmd (talk) 19:04, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
- I'm at WikiConference North America, was talking to an Afro-Canadian Wikipedian who is working on African-Canadian subjects, and mentioned Saunders (of whom she had not heard) as a biography which could use some fleshing out. I hope, of course, that she will also discover the Imaro series. --Orange Mike | Talk 19:18, 12 November 2023 (UTC)
