Requested move 14 May 2018
[edit]- The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: move the disambiguation page to the base title and this article to Charles O'Conor (American politician), per the discussion below. Dekimasuよ! 17:44, 21 May 2018 (UTC)
- Charles O'Conor → Charles O'Conor (U.S. politician)
- Charles O'Conor (disambiguation) → Charles O'Conor
– Minor political figure who received 0.3% popular vote when he was a fringe party presidential candidate in the United States presidential election, 1872. Not WP:PRIMARYTOPIC material. The proposed "U.S." within the qualifier is due to the dab page's inclusion of Irish MP Charles Owen O'Conor. Roman Spinner (talk • contribs) 17:53, 14 May 2018 (UTC)
- Move to Charles O'Conor (American politician). Agree there's no primary topic, but we use "American" as a disambiguator for American people, politicians or otherwise. -- Necrothesp (talk) 12:44, 16 May 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, of course, Charles O'Conor (American politician). A number of these "(U.S. politician)" qualifiers have been already moved and a number of others, such as Richard Baker (U.S. politician), Ron Brown (U.S. politician), Rosemary Brown (U.S. politician), Joseph Richardson (U.S. politician), Nick Smith (U.S. politician) or Bill Walker (U.S. politician) are waiting to be moved. - The above discussion is preserved as an archive of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on this talk page or in a move review. No further edits should be made to this section.
Did he support the Confederacy or the Union? Article implies both
[edit]Early in article:
- "During the American Civil War, O'Conor supported the Union. After the war, he served as counsel for Jefferson Davis after Davis was indicted for treason, and helped post Davis' bail."
Later in article:
- "In politics he supported the States' rights Democrats and sympathized throughout the American Civil War with the Southern states. After the war he became senior counsel for Jefferson Davis on his indictment for treason."
Can this be clarified better?
