I built and tested the Pogue carburetor in 1957
[edit]When I was a Senior at UCLA in Engineering in the summer of 1957, I built and tested the Pogue carburetor for my Senior Project in the "Senior Engineering Laboratory" class. I tested the carburetor on an old Ford V-8 engine from the 1930's. The results were a disappointment as the efficiency at best was only a few percent better than a conventional carburetor. My report was filed in the Engineering Library at ULCA, but years later when I requested to see it, they could not find it. I made no copy of it, partly because copying then was more expensive and partly due to the negative results. Another problem was that no money was available to finance the project and there was no way to measure the fuel/air ratio although I was able to vary it without knowing what the numerical values were. Using vapor instead of spraying liquid into a piston seems logical if you want more efficiency. Strange no one with money wants to invest in this - probably needs some engineering to get the most out of it. Most of the gas going out the tailpipe is old hat. The political balance between the environment, the driving public and the oil industry must be hard ( only joking, oil will win this easy.)
