White Supremacy Theories
[edit]Wikipedia is censoring statement's regarding Moose's theories about a white supremacist named "Robert Gene Baker" being the prime DC sniper suspect? Ex-Chief Moose specifically listed a white late model GMC truck as Baker's vehicle. There are 75 legitimate news sources for this on Google. Deleting factual negative information to what end? Better race relations? Isn't accuracy more important?
- Did you properly source the content? --CutOffTies (talk) 04:41, 27 January 2011 (UTC)
Yes, and the content is available upon simple google search by anyone who cares to do so. So Wikipedia wants me to edit their 'zine for free and create a user account? You've got to be dreaming. This article reads like a "guest speaker bio" for Moose, but if Wikipedia chooses to promote this POV, I certainly will not continue to lift a finger to make it more accurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.236.186.26 (talk) 00:40, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
- I did a cursory search on google news archive and found articles like this http://www.nydailynews.com/archives/news/2002/10/06/2002-10-06_hunt_armed_racist_supremacis.html - the content does not come close to supporting the claim in your edit. --CutOffTies (talk) 00:48, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
lol. You do realize your article is from October 6 and Robert Gene Baker was arrested without incident or weapons on October 5th, right? Its awfully convenient to say someone is not a suspect after they have been arrested and found to be uninvolved, but to pretend this man wasn't sought, arrested, and interrogated by Moose's Department in connection with these killings is simply inaccurate. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.236.186.26 (talk) 22:49, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
- If you have sources to back up your original edit that Baker was the reason Moose was fired, feel free to update the article with citations. FYI Baker was arrested for auto theft: ttp://www.nydailynews.com/archives/news/2002/10/06/2002-10-06_man_questioned_in_sniper_ram.html --CutOffTies (talk) 22:54, 28 January 2011 (UTC)
Baker was the reason Moose was fired? That may have been miswritten or I'm misunderstanding you, but I'm unfamiliar with facts that support that statement. That said, Moose openly theorized that the DC Sniper was a White Supremacist and ignored significant evidence to the contrary, including numerous police contacts with the actual killers during the killing spree and a singleminded yet erroneous pursuit of a mysterious white panel van that he previously believed to be Baker's. These facets of Moose's botched investigation did lead to Moose's ouster.
- I was a little off, but your unsourced edit attributed his resignation (not firing, sorry) squarely on this "white militants" issue. Again, if you have reliable sources to back up what you're saying, feel free to add it to the article, with the proper citations. --CutOffTies (talk) 14:09, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Accuracy of this article isn't particularly important to me. If Wikipedia senior editors have a specific POV, I will bend to that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.236.186.26 (talk) 03:51, 31 January 2011 (UTC)

[edit]Why would a former police chief need to undergo training to become a police officer? 172.147.130.246 17:59, 8 September 2006 (UTC)
The Honolulu Police Department has a policy against allowing lateral rank transfers from outside departments. Anyone who joins the Honolulu Police Department must start as a recruit.
The real unanswered question is why Charles Moose would run so far away from the police department in Maryland that he formerly headed. Kepiblanc 19:53, 2 June 2007 (UTC)

- I found this page after reading this article - [2] . Quoting from it: "Then there were those bizarre coded messages from Police Chief Charles Moose, who looked and sounded more like a preacher than a policeman. They were cryptic and confounding. In the blur of events, it seemed we were becoming the unwilling extras in some absurd Hollywood B-movie." Why aren't some or all of these apparently noteworthy messages quoted in the article or at least referred to? I'm going to be semi-bold & add a mention. It explains why he 'would run so far away from the police department in Maryland that he formerly headed.' wbm (talk) 12:03, 26 April 2009 (UTC)
- Nevermind - the "biographies of living persons. Controversial material" mention at the top of the edit page, plus the POV of footnoted article http://www.capmag.com/article.asp?ID=3099, makes me nervous enough that I'm not going to be the white guy to add details to this article. wbm (talk) 12:16, 26 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit]Reassessed to start class and Mid importance of Oregon WikiProject based upon this - Other people: Local significance only then Low. State-wide impact then Mid. National prominence then High. I would put forth that this individual qualifies since many people know about him on both coasts due to his heavy exposure during the shooting. But only mid importance since that was a fleeting look at him and not something that continues. He has been rather quiet recently. C. Williams (talk) 02:46, 6 August 2008 (UTC)
