Rating
[edit]I've changed the rating to C because:
#1 The article is not written in clear English.
#2 The article cites too few sources for the detailed information given
#3 The article is not in any discernible order
There is a lot of good information here, it just needs to be better organized/worded.Wuapinmon (talk) 20:09, 21 January 2008 (UTC)

Dubious
[edit]Carlos was not Gian Gastone's default heir: A 1713 ruling by the Tuscan senate decreed that Anna Maria Luisa de' Medici, Gian Gastone's sister, would succeed him for lack of male Medicis. However, the powers-that-be disregarded it and appointed Carlos -- and later Francis Stepehen of Lorraine -- heir-apparent. -- Jack1755 (talk) 23:31, 24 November 2009 (UTC)
- Considering the ghastly state of the writing in this article, who knows what was really meant anyway. Magic♪piano 14:58, 24 December 2009 (UTC)
- In fact, Charles III was, after Anna Maria Luisa, the THIRD in line in the Medici inheritance, His mother Elisabeth of Parma, was the only remaining blood relative of both Gian Gastone and his sister: Elisabeth's great-grandmother Margherita de' Medici was the only member of her family who had surviving issue by 1731, and in consecuence, the Queen of Spain was the legal heiress of both Farnese and Medici dynasties after Anna Maria Luisa's death in 1743. Less joy?
[edit]Concerning: "Unlike his twenty years in the Italian Peninsula, which had been very fruitful, the era on mainland Spain is often regarded with less joy."
I live in Spain and study at his namesake university. I'm not aware that anyone considers his reign over the plain in Spain as anything other than successful. He did, of course, have some matters with the Jesuits of which to take care, but I think the sentence quoted gives a distorted view of Charles's time on the Iberian peninsula.
Considering the weaselly nature of the sentence, as well as the contradictory nature of the sentences following, what are the steps necessary to remove this? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 188.76.114.99 (talk) 21:42, 19 November 2019 (UTC)
- Just remove it, I guess? Let someone else attempt to add it again and then they will have to source it or justify it? Also, does anyone know how he died? No where in the article does it state how he died, which seems strange. 108.196.4.46 (talk) 08:31, 28 November 2022 (UTC)
Can someone help me with Charles III's dates?
[edit]The exact dates for Charles III's rule as Duke of Parma and Piacenza, and perhaps for other dates as well, seem to be disputed. The Spanish wiki article has different dates to the English page for Charles III, with hard to access sources on the English page that might verify that claim. So I'm asking people if you guys can volunteer and help me look through any and all resources/references to find these exact dates. I would gladly appreciate that help. Primary topic
[edit]There seems to be a good argument to be made for Charles III being the primary topic for the title Charles III. He was king for 29 years of the Kingdom of Spain and the Spanish Empire, a vast realm. Within his realm he held significant political power and left a lasting legacy. There can be no doubt that he is the historically most significant monarch of the name Charles III. --Sveinkros (talk) 02:45, 9 September 2022 (UTC)
- Good luck with that! Until yesterday he was getting some 700 views per day, whereas the new Charles III will be getting.... I certainly think he should get Carlos III though - concentrate on that. Johnbod (talk) 02:51, 9 September 2022 (UTC)
- Can anyone explain why we even use an anglicized version of Carlos III's name? I mean we don't have articles named Philip VI and John Charles I. Tvx1 16:40, 9 September 2022 (UTC)
- All Spanish monarchs until I think 1833 WP:USEENGLISH, as do their Habsburg, Valois and Bourbon cousins. So we have Philip V of Spain, and 1-4 too. Felipe II of Spain would be pretty odd, no? No doubt there have been plenty of WP:RM discussions. Johnbod (talk) 16:47, 9 September 2022 (UTC)
- The sensitive nature of Spanish nationalists who still rage over the legacy of some dead pirate who shat himself to death 430 years ago amuses me. You really think Charles III of Spain is going to be more notable to English speaking readers than the ‘new’ Charles III of England? And primary topic? Not a chance.2A00:23C4:3E08:4001:E492:A5DC:4E5:81E6 (talk) 23:39, 30 September 2022 (UTC)
