at the time of his death : • Died at home 16 Belgrave Square London • He represented the Borough on Monmouthshire County Council and death caused a vacancy • Was a Governor of of Monmouth Grammar School • A Monmouthshire County Magistrate • He was sole proprietor of a Varnish Manufacturing Firm Noble and Hoare, Cornwall Road Lambeth the only refs I could find on google are “http://www.gracesguide.co.uk/Nobles_and_Hoare and http://www.london-gazette.co.uk/issues/21423/pages/860/page.pdf did find lots of newspaper articles on fires at the factory …they had a few 

The article also says that he was from Clent Worcestershire which conflicts with the census’ which all said Pedmore The article also says Drybridge house “was passed to him” from his predecessors in his family Article says he suffered from Acute Neuralgia which he had sort several cures including being Hypnotised without success. 

Census

All Census’ he stated he was from Pedmore Worcestershire in the 1841 Census his father Charles is listed as a Solicitor. They were living in Pedmore.

In the 1851 Census he is at 24 Stanhope St London his occupation is down as Professor of Chemistry even though he is only 20. I wonder if he was the chemist behind the Varnish?.

In 1861 Listed as a Merchant …cant make out street name but its in london and he is a boarder

Cant find him in 1871

In 1881 listed living at 16 Belgrave Sq London and occupation is as a JP and Monmouth Merchant still stated Pedmore as birthplace.

Cand find in 1891

Funeral of CH Crompton-Roberts Western Mail (Cardiff, Wales), Friday, November 20, 1891; Issue 7022

• Birth date 7th March 1832 • Funeral Was on previous Thursday afternoon making Burial 19th November 1891

• 40 Staff from Nobel and Hoare turned up for the funeral • Blinds were Drawn and Shutters put in place in Monmouth Town for the funeral as mark of respect. • Funeral arrangement were by Mr Oatforth Monmouth but the coffin was supplied by Mr A Wilkie of Marylebone on which a bras plate was engraved with ” CHARLES HENRY CROMPTON ROBERTS BORN THE 7th MARCH 1832 DIED November 15th 1891” • He had requested to be buried at Monmouth St Marys but the churchyard was closed for new burials so he was buried at Rockfield in the little church and burying ground a few miles away. • He was buried at 1:30pm sharp • The borough Maces and mace bearers were present as was the Mayor of Monmouth • Rev J T Harding Vicar of Rockfeild took the service. • Mr Woolven played the organ • A large choir was assembled • The staff sergeants of the Royal Monmouth Engineer Militia formed the guard of honour • Hymns were “Ten Thousand Times Ten Thousand” and Now the Labourers Task in Over.

• When he died his estate was worth £274,147 7s 6d not including an insurance policy he had woth £100,000 • Article backs up JP and proprietor of Varnish Manufacturer Cornwall Rd ,Noble and Hoare • Address listed at 16 Belgrave Sqaure, Drybridge Monmouth, Field House Clent, and • Also stated that John Noble was his Uncle died a year earlier and left £929,045 Personally I think he had a house in Clent when he died but must have been born in Pedmore I think he had the money his wife gave him social status?

I think some of the information (for instance, about his funeral arrangements) could do with some trimming. Just because we have the information doesn't mean we need to add it to the article - Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. Ghmyrtle (talk) 22:03, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Birth

There is no doubt that Feild house, Clent was owned by him at his death. Im 90% sure he was born or lived early life in Pedmore based on census records. Its about 3 miles from Clent so the address may have been interchangable? What should we do about that fact? Antarchie (talk) 20:35, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

We should use the best and most reliable sources. Do you have reliable sources that state, specifically, that he was born or lived his early life in Pedmore? If so, we should change the text to say that, and add the appropriate references. Ghmyrtle (talk) 21:59, 15 February 2012 (UTC)

Looking at the source, it says he was christened at Pedmore, not that he was born there. Whether that's significant or not, I've no idea! Ghmyrtle (talk) 22:47, 16 February 2012 (UTC)

Its backed up by the wider search shwoing the census and birthplace he or his father always stated Pedmore

Also St. Leonard's Church, is in Clent so its unlikely they would go to different parish for a christening unless they fell out with the vicar :) Antarchie (talk) 23:09, 16 February 2012 (UTC)
