Position of Gold Commissioner
[edit]I just happened to find this article while trying to locate articles in need of Category:Gold Commissioners and noted that Harpur was a Gold Commissioner - in Australia. I didn't know that the position Gold Commissioner existed elsewhere when I created the category earlier tonight; it may be that Category:Gold Commissioners in British Columbia or Category:Gold Commissioners in Canada (because of the Yukon Territory likely having had this title as well...) vs Category:Gold Commissioners in Australia and theoretical Category:Gold Comissioners in South Africa, etc. as applicable. I'll post this also on Category talk:Gold Commissioners.Skookum1 06:42, 19 April 2007 (UTC)
Upping the importance and quality of this page
[edit]I have recently joined Wikipedia:WikiProject Australian literature, and I would like to make this page my first project.
Before I get my hands dirty, I just wanted to introduce myself here, and ensure no-one opposes my main changes. What I propose to do is:
- Raise the importance of the page fromw 'Low' to 'High'. Scholars of Australian Literature generally regard Harpur as 'Australia's most important nineteenth-century poet' (Macquarie PEN Anthology of Australian Literature, introduction to Harpur section)
- Expand the biography section with the help of Normington-Rawling's published biography (which I own) and the data available at the Charles Harpur Critical Archive
- Expand the literary qualities section with references to Paul Kane, Michael Ackland, Judith Wright, Paul Eggert and other major scholars of Harpur's work
At the moment, the page is broadly accurate, and contains a good list of works and resources. My focus will mainly be on expanding the content and providing citations.
I myself have published peer-reviewed articles on Harpur's work. I will indicate self-references on the talk page so that other editors can review them.
Does anyone have any comments on this? Michaelgfalk (talk) 02:15, 15 November 2022 (UTC)
