My Great and Only
[edit]Apparantly Kipling wrote a story about Gatti's called "My Great and Only" available in an obscure looking collection of his stories called 'Abaft the Funnel'... Not available on-line I fear. I did look...But now mentioned on the wikipedia for the first time...hurrah...Colin4C 15:26, 16 October 2007 (UTC)
- But seems in might be available in the Penguin 'Portable Rudyard Kipling' Colin4C 10:18, 17 October 2007 (UTC)
He also wrote (probably in 'Something of Myself') an evocative description of being able from his first floor window opposite to look down through the crown of the arch onto Gatti's stage, the angle being exactly right, and watch the performances from his living room. He also describes seeing from the same window a man slitting his throat in Villiers Street (I think of it whenever I am there). In about 1976 I photographed this view from Kipling's window, and then promptly had my camera stolen with the film in it!Wolstan Dixie (talk) 19:37, 27 July 2021 (UTC)
