Talk:Character classes from the Dragon Quest series

At first glance, this appears to be a new page copied from http://en.allexperts.com/e/l/li/list_of_character_classes.htm#hd8. However, this article was split off from List of character classes, which had gotten too long. Tiny print at the very bottom of http://en.allexperts.com/e/l/li/list_of_character_classes.htm indicates that WP was indeed the source. -- Butseriouslyfolks 03:50, 1 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

  • I see one big problem with this page is that it doesn't explain what the classes are like in DQ, it only has links to explanations of classes in basic and what games what classes are in. -- 220.244.7.66, 10:00, 8 February (GMT)

Classes in other Dragon Quest games

[edit]

Dragon Quest IV featured classes, although they couldn't be changed like in other games.

Ragnar/ Ryan was a soldier/ fighter. Alena was tagged as a princess, but used martial artist techniques. Cristo/ Krift was a priest. Brey/ Burai was a mage.

Taloon/ Toruneko was a (weapons) merchant. Mara/ Mâna was a dancer (with mage spells). Nara/ Minea was a fortune teller (with priest spells). The main character was a hero.

Dragon Quest Monsters: Caravan Heart includes classes, too, but I'll have to check what all of them are (don't have it close right now).

A note on Dragon Quest II. I don't remember correctly, but I believe the japanese game marked the main character as "hero", even when he didn't learn any spell, like heroes from other games. The other prince was a magic knight in Japan.

And I agree with 220.244.7.66 that more explanation is required about how classes work, whether they can be selected at the start, changed (at Dharma Temple) or are fixed to the character. Icecypher 21:43, 14 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Names of classes

[edit]

I suggest that we provide the names of the classes as they are called in localized version of Dragon Quest. Reason: the target readers are English speakers who would be most likely to play the localized versions of Dragon Quest. For Dragon Quest VII, we should provide the names of classes used in Dragon Warrior VII.

Why is this an article?

[edit]

This is a completely pointless article. Sure, it's information about Dragon Quest but it should be added to each specific game's article. I propose first cleaning up and localizing the information to it's proper English names that people know. Then moving this information into a relevant spot on each individual game's page for other people to pick at. Then we hit the 'delete' button.
