It's my favourite champagne and I was adding information to Wikipedia that I have put together from a number of source. I put a link through to the Champagne House's official website just for information for other users.

There's really nothing about this article that is not directly promoting its subject, though. It would have to be totally rewritten to not appear to be advertising. At the very best, it fails Wikipedia's Neutral Point of View policy. Please also note that articles have to be verifiable by reliable sources. Dethme0w (talk) 09:25, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This is notable

[edit]

Salon is a notable producer of acclaimed and friggin' expensive Champagne. We just need to clean up the tone of the article. I'll stub-ify if necessary and I may ask wiki-oenophile extraordinaire Agne27 to help out.--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back (talk) 09:26, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Notable or not, it's spam. If the article on Lenovo were nothing but gushing praise for Thinkpads, I'd flag that under G11 as well. It needs a total rewrite. Good luck with that. Dethme0w (talk) 09:28, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
If you would tag Lenovo for deletion because of an inappropriately promotional tone, you'd be over-reacting. We're here to improve encyclopedic content, not obliterate the potential for a good article. Total rewrite or no, I'll take care of it, with a little help from my friends.--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back (talk) 09:35, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
The article in its previous state was far beyond "an inappropriately promotional tone" - as an outsider who had never heard of Salon Champagne before, I found it impossible to believe that the creator wasn't working for their marketing department, so completely subject-POV it was. With that said, you probably deserve a barnstar for the quick rewrite. Dethme0w (talk) 21:02, 19 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Spam Attack?

[edit]

Hartley1967 had basically copy pasted a load of text from the Corney & Barrow website directly into this page, and into another couple of wine articles, Pétrus & Domaine de la Romanée Conti, then also added links to the website. So not only did the older version here read like marketing nonsense, and seem to be a spam attempt, but it was also a copyright violation, presumably. This article's been rewritten in a proper encyclopedic tone now, but the other two are still a bit ropey (I took the worst of the marketing speak out from them, but not all of the recently inserted text). If I wasn't assuming good faith, I might even leap to the conclusion that this editor is in fact Oliver Hartley, who is listed on the Corney & Barrow website as the company's Sales Director. Or that could just be a coincidence of course - I mean no-one would be that inept at covering their tracks surely? --Nickhh (talk) 16:54, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

That's hilarious. But I won't bite any newbies, even if they happen to be employed hawking $500 bottles of wine. Hartley1967 probably wasn't well versed on Wikipedia's guidelines. I'm sure he knows better now.--The Fat Man Who Never Came Back (talk) 17:04, 20 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

From Hartley1967. Oh dear. It was the first thing I have ever done on Wikipedia and I wanted to put some accurate information up about Salon. Guilty as charged on all counts, The Fat Man Who Never Came Back & Nickhh, and thank you for giving me some benefit of the doubt. Had no idea what the rules were & thought that the info I put up was simply factual. I shan't be putting anything else up without reading the rules first. Oops.
