Nice!
[edit]"The Frying Pan", would be Sartágo/Sartáginis in Latin! Nice! Except that my "The Frying Pan" is a very small circle of 6-7 mag stars around the galaxy NGC2403 in Cam, and so that galaxy is the "Fried Egg Galaxy". Now go get a citation please! Said: Rursus ☻ 18:31, 16 July 2008 (UTC)
- Very interesting! I am a dedicated collector of names and nicknames of deepsky objects and asterisms (read: of all the named and nicknamed astronomical objects beyond the solar system). Your nicknames The Frying Pan and Fried Egg Galaxy (NGC 2403) go straight into my good old-fashioned alphabetically arranged CAHIER of astronomical nomenclature! Thanks! Strange names in Chamaeleon (WIKISKY)
[edit]Exploring WIKISKY is always adventurous because of the weird and very unusual nomenclature of the stars and deepsky objects (most of these names are of non-I.A.U. origin). The names of the stars of the constellation Chamaeleon are perhaps strange, but... maybe they are valuable. Here's a list of them:
- Xiaodousi (Delta CHA), Xiaodousan (Gamma CHA), Xiaodouwu (Zeta CHA), Xiaodouliu (Iota CHA), Xiaodouer (Epsilon CHA), Xiaodouyi (Beta CHA), Xiaodouba (Theta CHA).

These Chinese words just mean 4th, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 2nd, 1st, and 8th stars of the Little Dipper, so are not really star names at all. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chamaeleon_in_Chinese_astronomy Skeptic2 (talk) 12:16, 25 August 2024 (UTC)
- That's interesting! (Wikipedia page of Chamaeleon in Chinese astronomy). Thanks Skeptic2! DannyJ.Caes (talk) 11:40, 26 August 2024 (UTC)
