"Little Eva's backing singers"?

[edit]

While the Cookies were Little Eva's back-up group, to their and her glory, to identify them as such is a little misleading. The Cookies (version 2, the Dimension label singers) were everybody's back-up group: e.g. Neil Sedaka's, Tony Bennett's, Eydie Gorme's, Mel Torme's, just to name a few. Before the Sweet Inspirations and Blossoms came along, they were it--who you got if you needed back-up. Furthermore, in addition to "Chains" they recorded under their own names (and pseudonyms) as well, their sublime "Don't say nothin' bad about my baby" charting at #3 in the USA. To devote more space to the Beatles' cover is a little strange, too, although kudos to them for recognizing the good stuff and maybe pushing some royalties and extra sales the Cookies' way.
