Chai Chee vs. Kampong Chai Chee

[edit]

@MageLam: From what I have seen, Chai Chee is used to refer to the estate while Kampong Chai Chee is used for the constituency/ward. If you see here [1], [2], [3], [4], [5] you will notice that "Chai Chee" is used for the general area.

"Kampong Chai Chee" on the other hand is used for the community centre, ward/constituency or when referring to the village which used to previously exist. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 14:06, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@MageLam: I'm not going to move it back again and edit war. But you need to provide sources for your assertion. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 14:08, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Lemongirl942: So I found this from the NLB. -- MageLam (talk) 14:11, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

And this as well. -- MageLam (talk) 14:12, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@MageLam: From your NLB source it seems Chai Chee is the general area and Kampong Chai Chee is community centre, ward/constituency, former village:
  • "Chai Chee was originally a village..."
  • "Chai Chee began as a village of ..."
  • "Kampong Chai Chee constituency..."
  • "By the early 1980s Kampong Chai Chee became a completely urbanised town..."
  • "...town square of Chai Chee is in..."

@Lemongirl942: Gonna move it back. I think I should address both names in the heading. -- MageLam (talk) 14:25, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Lemongirl942: I believe you just duplicated the page. I think you might wanna do something about it? -- MageLam (talk) 14:28, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I just went through the archive and understand why the name stuck. Although for the last 20 years (1990s onwards) Chai Chee has been used, it was previously known as Kampong Chai Chee. When the HDB estate was being built, it still continued to be referred to as "Kampong Chai Chee" estate [6], although Chai Chee also started to be used for the estate itself [7]. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 14:32, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@Lemongirl942: Problem is, which name do we use? -- MageLam (talk) 14:37, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]

@MageLam: Ah, so it was an edit conflict, but when you moved the page I didn't get a warning. This will have to listed at requested moves. Also, as I said before, if a page has been stable for over a year, it is best to request a move rather than move it unilaterally. Unlike edits, moves can mess up the edit history and are harder to fix. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 14:38, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Use Chai Chee for the page name (since it was used earlier as well) but leave the introduction as it is right now. Although "Kampong Chai Chee" is not used at present, it was still used as recently as the 80s to refer to the estate. --Lemongirl942 (talk) 14:40, 10 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
