Doubts about this formation

[edit]

I didn't find conclusive evidence for this formation, especially not dated to the Jurassic. Searching in Spanish gives 2 results, one is the Spanish article about Megalosaurus, where it is said "Albian to Cenomanian" of Chubut. The second result is about a Cerro Castillo Formation of Oligocene age in Tierra del Fuego (so not Chubut), pages 46-48. Fossilworks doesn't list this formation, so also not the Megalosaurus fossils found here, which is not a South American genus at all. @Mikenorton:, any ideas? Lots of articles on formations were started based on Weichsampel alone. It's a huge compendium of data on dinosaur fossil locations, but they are sometimes out of date and occasionally erroneous as far as I can tell. That record may be based solely on the Spanish language source that you found. If that's the case, and I can't see the relevant page in Weichsampel, it's impossible to know what the current designation for this bit of stratigraphy is. In summary, I share your doubts.
