Move?
[edit]- The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.
The result of the move request was: nomination withdrawn. Clearly the consensus is against me on this one. Jenks24 (talk) 06:27, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
Centre line (football) → Centre line –
- requesting WP:BRD move. I'm not convinced that "centre line" is ambiguous with "central line" and seeing as it's been at that title with no problems since it was created 2005, I think it should at least go through a full discussion if it is to be moved at all. Jenks24 (talk) 08:32, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- There is an article at the destination that is not a redirect to the current location. By definition, this is a contested move. - UtherSRG (talk) 18:37, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- Yes, because it was moved less than 24 hours ago and because I'm not an admin I'm unable to perform a BRD move myself. Jenks24 (talk) 18:49, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- There are many centre lines and center lines and central lines. Page Central line is about a London Underground railway line, just as important as a football term. Anthony Appleyard (talk) 21:40, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- I assume the request is mistaken. It should be a move to Centre line (from where it was moved), not Central line. As per WP:BRD it should be returned. And as there are no other articles entitled Centre line I doubt it needs disambiguating. Tassedethe (talk) 22:25, 29 March 2012 (UTC)
- Ugh, yes you're correct Tassedethe, I did write "Central line" when I meant "Centre line", and that does explain Anthony's and Uther's confusion. Sorry guys. But now that I've corrected the request, would you or another admin be able to perform a speedy BRD move? Jenks24 (talk) 02:10, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
- Strong oppose highly generic, and several things are referred to as the centre line. The 50-yard-line in football (which isn't this one), the red-line in hockey (which isn't this one), the centre line of an airport runway, etc. 70.24.244.198 (talk) 04:01, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
- Strong reply. None of the things you mention have articles, except the red line which has a redirect at Red line (hockey) and makes no mention of "centre line". We don't disambiguate for topics which fail to meet Wikipedia's threshold of notability. Jenks24 (talk) 04:19, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
- The centre line divides the ice in half lengthwise from the target of the redirect. And I fail to see how it doesn't meet the threshold of notability. The centre line in hockey is at the center of a debate for a rules change currently. Some leagues use it in offsides, some do not. 70.24.244.198 (talk) 07:27, 30 March 2012 (UTC)

- Oppose clearly not primary. As mentioned above its a highly generic term and I would definitely not give primary topic to any one use. -DJSasso (talk) 11:57, 30 March 2012 (UTC)
- Oppose. Not the primary meaning. Centre line should remain a redirect to center line, as it is a common variant spelling of the same topic. Andrewa (talk) 04:14, 5 April 2012 (UTC)
