Talk:Central West (Sydney)

I am really not sure that this deserves an article. The ABS does indeed have a statistical subdivision called "Central Western Sydney", but this includes only Parramatta, Auburn and Holroyd, not the area described in the article. The government employment statistics use a different area called "Central West Sydney", including also Baulkham Hills, but definitely not parts of Strathfield. To make it worth having an article, I would think we need sources confirming use of "Central West" to describe an area of Sydney in more general contexts. I would expect "Central West" in a NSW context to more commonly refer to the area around Dubbo. At any rate, the description of this area as "anything not included in Greater Western Sydney or the Inner West" needs to go - any idea of "Greater Western Sydney" usually includes Parramatta, etc, as the references in that article show. I've never heard of that classification - and unlike Western Sydney, The Hills District, or Lower North Shore, it doesn't appear to be a well-used classification. Yes, the normal classifications don't really cover every suburb, but that's just the way it is. I'd be inclined to delete the page completely, and perhaps insert a referenced line or two on the Greater Western Sydney page. JRG 23:31, 29 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

JRG, I really agree quite strongly on this issue of merging. The problem is there is no set area termed "Central Western Sydney" by different organisations. Inner West is clear, Greater Western Sydney is clear, but the Central West is just what you say when you don't want people to think you are calling them a bogan / westie...

This page should be a redirect to Greater Western Sydney, and a section on Central West should be introduced noting that it is a frequently used term but it is applied to different areas of Sydney by different groups. That would be easy to confirm, with only two-three references to Central West which don't confirm each other regarding what is/isn't central.Ga rr ie 22:46, 11 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

The page was blanked, so I got around to redirecting it. I may get around to adding the info to the GWS page, but I'm not convinced that the term has enough use to make it much of a priority or even need the redirect, but it doesn't hurt anyone. JPD (talk) 16:43, 19 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]
