Cee Lo's Mother

[edit]

There are some inconsistencies with the article. Soul Food dropped in November of 1995, at which point His mother was still alive. On "Guess Who" Cee Lo talks about how she's talking so he knows she's going to walk again. Also, in Rolling Stones he talks about how she got into the accident while they were still recording the first album, and how she lived for three more years after the accident:

http://www.rollingstone.com/artists/ceelo/articles/story/5933669/ceelos_redemption_songs

If he was born in '74, and she was injured when he was 17, that would have marked the accident around 1991, and her death by 94, a year before the album was dropped with him talking about her still alive. Something isn't adding up, if the album was dedicated to her before it was released, there should be a citation because nothing indicates that she passed before it was released. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 68.159.29.213 (talk) 2006-06-05 05:00:03 (UTC)

Is somewhat confusing, but the second to last page clearly reads "in memory of" and cee-lo's thank you's have R.I.P. after her name. so she had to have died sometime between the recording and the publishing, unless there's a reissued version of the CD JuliusMalone27 22:19, 18 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

"Thomas Burton"?

[edit]

The article says he was born Thomas Burton. I think this is a mistake; probably because of Brian Burton, aka Danger Mouse, who he is collaberating with. Or is this true? 65.92.94.242 17:29, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I think you're right, have removed "Thomas Burton", unable to find any other reference to him with that name. 38.101.8.2 19:31, 15 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]
It is true, He was indeed born Thomas Burton. He explains in his book (and on Leno) that when his mother passed away he changed it to 'Calloway' (her maiden name). --Loginnigol 18:55, 29 September 2013 (UTC)

Successful Solo Career?

[edit]

Quoting the intro paragraph, "...and has also recorded two successful solo LPs. ...". Also, quoting a lower section, "The album did not sell well...".

I just finished reading the article in the current Rolling Stone (Aug 2006) about Cee-Lo, that specifically said his 2 solo albums were commercial flops. I believe stating that he has "two successful solo LPs" is a complete misnomer, and needs to be removed, as they were far from successful, and ended uo getting him dropped from his label. Couldn't find anything regarding Cee-lo being criticized for a small vocal range. In fact, the only think I could find was this bit about how his range is "incredible." There is a new article on visionary mag quoting the blender article. The removal of the blender article (and no other article from 2006) is also noteworthy. I added in the sociopathic quotes from the visionary article. Just because cee-lo is getting the articles removed from the internet doesn't mean it doesn't deserve mention. cameo (talk) 23:51, 25 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

f you sounds like a song from 1969

[edit]

in my opinion, the main melody line of f you (forget you), which gets repeated over and over through cee lo green's hit song, sounds a lot like the main melody line from a 1969 single by Houston Texas group The Clique entitled I'll Hold Out My Hand. Just a coincidence? 64.39.191.33 (talk) 16:32, 16 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

not very close. just generic similarity to music from the era. hopefully, we will have some learned commentary on Green's melodies to add to the article. im absolutely amazed anyone is trying to write songs any more.76.245.46.57 (talk) 04:37, 21 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"His brother, Elais, moved to Canada a year before her death." Cee Lo was just on Chelsea Lately and specifically said he does not have a brother, he has a sister. No it isn't. Yves (talk) 01:22, 1 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I think there should be a debate about his name here.

Allmusic, Amazon, Metacritic, his old albums use the name "Cee-Lo Green"

iTunes, official website omit the "-" here; use "Cee Lo Green"

What should we pick here? Silvergoat (talkcontrib) 16:13, 15 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Well if the official website omits the hyphen, I believe it shouldn't be there anymore. It is, after all, a stage name and not his real name. His recent releases and his official website all omit the hyphen, as do many sources such as MTV, Entertainment Weekly, The New York Times, the Los Angeles Times, Rolling Stone, Billboard, the CBC, the BBC, etc. I believe this is a case similar to The Black Eyed Peas, whose releases post-Legally Blonde were credited to "The Black Eyed Peas" rather than "Black Eyed Peas". Official press releases from his label (Atlantic), including this one, omit the hyphen as well. Yves (talk) 01:21, 16 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Cee Lo vs. Cee-Lo

[edit]

Exactly. It used to be "Cee-Lo", but is not "Cee Lo". Refer to the section above. Yves (talk) 17:04, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
We should go with what his official site says? Similar issue with Ke$ha vs. Kesha. CTJF83 chat 22:37, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Haha the Ke$ha site is filled with dollar signs. Cee Lo's site, on the other hand, uses the unhyphenated form. Yves (talk) 22:45, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I prob linked the wrong one. Our page is without the dollar sign, for style reasons I guess. CTJF83 chat 22:51, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Per WP:BOLD, I've changed (and forwarded) Category:Cee-Lo albums to Category:Cee Lo Green albums, based on the discussions here and for naming consistency.

Please note, this change is best-effort; see WP:BRD. If people want to discuss things here, and change it around (e.g. make a sub-cat for the older 'Cee-Lo' ones), that's fine.

The articles changed are;

I had originally created and changed the articles to Category:Cee-lo albums but following a discussion on my own talk page, User talk:Chzz#Cee-lo albums (which will, later, be in User talk:Chzz/Archive 29#Cee-lo albums), I made the amendment above, and also redirected Category:Cee-lo albums to Category:Cee Lo Green albums.  Chzz  ►  19:07, 13 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Good work! Probably don't need a subcategory, the search function finds both forms. The articles themselves (not the category) should match the historical record. If the albums are "Cee-Lo", then match the album wording. One problem is that international reviews still use "Cee-Lo", while U.S. reviews largely drop the hyphen.
--William Allen Simpson (talk) 13:01, 21 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Moved Perfect Imperfections to match album typography, although arguably those are also all lower cased.

Name: CeeLo or Cee Lo?

[edit]

I've just recently noticed that news sources began calling Green as CeeLo. Now, his official website [www.ceelogreen.com], twitter and facebook etc have all been changed to "CeeLo" as well, and he has been credited in his new songs like "Only You" and "Hello" (T.I. song) as "CeeLo". Should this name change be reflected in the article? ⊾maine12329⊿ talks@wiki 06:34, 28 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Requested move

[edit]

Cee Lo GreenCeeLo Green – Has become the most used spelling. There are a lot of old articles that use "Cee Lo" or Cee-Lo", but much less so now, and CeeLo himself spells it without the space[2][3][4][5][6][7][8][9][10] Film Fan 21:25, 29 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, some press are not quite up-to-date yet. But the vast majority are, so the move passes WP:COMMONNAME. Film Fan 18:21, 30 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • Indeed, Film_Fan, so I Support the move as well because of that. Somebody above mentioned simple google count of everything - that is irrelevant not only because of WP:COMMONNAME rules, but also because there is another added reason in this specific case: Google automatically adds up "Cee Lo" and "Cee-Lo" together - and that makes any attempt to make reliable judgement exclusively on the use of "Cee Lo" invalid. --Loginnigol 22:37, 30 September 2013 (UTC)
  • Support. If he spells it CeeLo, that's where it should be. Dralwik|Have a Chat 03:39, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
So if Cee Lo (or CeeLo) decided to change his handle to Zebra Lotush Pringles, are we going to change the title to that? Our policy COMMONNAME already sets out clearly that we do not change the article name in accordance to artist's preference. Rather, "Wikipedia does not necessarily use the subject's 'official' name as an article title; it prefers to use the name that is most frequently used to refer to the subject in English-language reliable sources." Cee Lo has clearly been better known as Cee Lo, and not CeeLo, throughout his established career. So Cee Lo it shall stay. ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble11:10, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
See mine and Loginnigol's posts regarding commonname. Film Fan 16:08, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
I don't see the relevancy in your comment, as we're discussing a mere spelling change (more like punctuation, actually), instead of a name change. The difference between CeeLo and Cee Lo is insignificant to virtually everyone but this discussion and (possibly) him, so we should bow to how the person spells their name. Richard M. Nixon's middle name is commonly spelled Milhouse, but he himself spelled it Milhous. Which one do we use on his page? Dralwik|Have a Chat 19:02, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Nixon is irrelevant here. Film Fan 21:03, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Because the middle name isn't in his article title? I used him as an example where sources are split nearly evenly on the spelling of his name, yet he clearly preferred the spelling that at first glance would seem more unusual.
This point aside, the article already uses CeeLo, so why not have the article title match the rest of the article? Dralwik|Have a Chat 21:12, 1 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Just because the rest of the article uses CeeLo doesn't mean it's correct. This reminds me of the "Jay-Z vs. Jay Z" discussion not so long ago. ☯ Bonkers The Clown \(^_^)/ Nonsensical Babble10:16, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
But CeeLo himself spelling his name without the space makes it correct, as far as I'm concerned. If he pulled a Prince and asked to be known by some bizarre new name, I'd understand your hesitancy. But when the debate is over a space (or hyphen), I see no reason to not go along with him. Dralwik|Have a Chat 14:12, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
All of those sites also use "CeeLo Green",[11][12][13][14][15] but yes, there are a number of publications yet to cotton on. Film Fan 10:05, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Exactly. When a source uses multiple varieties, including the correct one, then that correct version should automatically count for more by virtue of it being correct. --Loginnigol 16:57, 3 October 2013 (UTC)

Green

Date of birth

The article states Green was born on May 30, 1975, but uses a non-reliable source of Songfacts. AllMusic is deemed generally reliable and states May 30, 1974. I would not, from experience completely trust AllMusic, but I would when compared to the user-generated Songfacts. "Better source needed than imdb"

[edit]

While I understand the general sentiment I find it extremely weird that someone have tagged "CeeLo was in the movie XY" sourced with IMBD as "unreliable source". I mean, it's kind of obvious to check, one watch the movie and see that CeeLo is in it, listed in the actors list... Also I am not quite sure what kind of source the person inserting this problem tag needed, that someone is actually in a publicly available movie. I could have inserted a random movie critique but it would be less reliable than IMDB. This tagging seems very counterproductive to me. --grin 21:26, 8 September 2024 (UTC)[reply]
