Place of birth
[edit]I've removed Newcastle as Scott's place of birth from the infobox because we have received evidence at OTRS (VRTS ticket # 2018061610003557) that this is incorrect. His birth certificate states that he was born in Hexham. This isn't apparently reported in any published sources, but since the birth certificate proves that Newcastle is incorrect, I have removed it. Cordless Larry (talk) 18:13, 17 June 2018 (UTC)
- The OTRS correspondent has contacted a number of sites to have Scott's birthplace corrected, and Transfermarkt were the first to respond, so I have used their profile as a source to add Hexham to the infobox. Cordless Larry (talk) 19:11, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
- @Cordless Larry: Transfermarkt is not a reliable source. GiantSnowman 19:12, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
- Argh. Is there consensus on that, GiantSnowman? The thing is, it seems that Soccerway isn't reliable either, since they are reporting the wrong birthplace. Cordless Larry (talk) 19:16, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
- Yes, see Wikipedia:Reliable sources/Noticeboard/Archive 150#Transfermarkt player profiles (and earlier discussions which led to it). It hasn't been used by WP:FOOTBALL since. Soccerway is reliable - just because it's reporting the (seemingly) incorrect place of birth doesn't affect that. Saying 'Newcastle' instead of 'Hexham' is kind of like saying (I'm not sure where in the UK you're from) 'London' instead of 'Lambeth'... GiantSnowman 19:25, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
- That's a shame. Hopefully they'll get a reply from Soccerway too. I have to disagree about the Lambeth comparison, though. Lambeth is part of London, whereas Hexham is almost halfway to Carlisle from Newcastle! Cordless Larry (talk) 19:29, 19 June 2018 (UTC)
- We have received a copy of a newspaper article that confirms Hexham as Scott's birthplace as Hexham. I have used this source to add the detail to the infobox. Cordless Larry (talk) 06:17, 8 September 2018 (UTC)
