Dead?
[edit]A recent edit claims that Murgatroyd died in 2001. Does anyone have more details on the circumstances of his death? Acb 09:52, 27 July 2005 (UTC) He died of liver cancer in Melbourne in 2001 - see the newspaper article referenced in article. Deathlibrarian (talk) 15:20, 20 May 2011 (UTC)

tagged as hoax
[edit]I am tagging this article as a possible hoax. A Google search returns no independent confirmation that this person in fact ever existed. It is particularly remarkable that the untimely death (at 42) of even a spurious political candidate would go entirely unreported in any news media. This person appears only on sites of a clearly fictitious nature, like this and this, and I strongly suspect that Cecil G. Murgatroyd is a fiction himself. There's nothing wrong with a WP article on a fictitious subject, but the subject should be clearly identified as fictitious.--Jim10701 (talk) 12:33, 4 November 2010 (UTC)
Not a hoax. This person definitely existed, he was a well known identity in certain circles in Melbourne and New Zealand, stood as an independant as well as representing two parties, and attended the Australian Constititional Convention as a Candidate. I've seen photos of him, and there is video of him on Youtube here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KrWajXei1W8 .He is also referenced in a number of articles. However, I agree, there are issues here with this article in that it is not referenced, I've found references for most of his activitues and added them. As such, I am dremoving the hoax tag. not a hoax, i lived with him for a few years in carlton
Not a hoax, I went with him to see the Dalai Lama when he visited Melbourne in 1996. "Murgy" was limping because he had a stone in his shoe which he said had been there for several weeks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8003:D85A:BC00:E09A:1119:99BA:D50D (talk) 13:54, 27 April 2020 (UTC)
