For-profit

[edit]

it should be mentioned that causes is a for profit company that takes a percentage of every charitable donation.

It is a for-profit company, but it doesn't take a percentage of donations. It makes its money from optional tips, advertising, and selling services to corporations looking for a platform for their corporate philanthropy. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.102.197.163 (talk) 08:06, 2 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Tips can either come off of the top of the donation or the donor can add the tip to the total. This rips off the charity and/or the donor.
Advertising? Is the advertising related to generating more tip revenue or deductions from donors' contributions?
Selling services to enhance or enable corporate philanthropy generates more revenue for the "causes" company.
This is clearly a scam!! If you know which charity you want to donate to, then going through Causes.com is ludicrous. You either reduce the amount you want to give through Causes "tip" jar, increase the amount you pay by adding a tip to your donation or simply have the 4%+ fee deducted from your donation.
