The comparison of techniques is outdated, modern cold cathode units have equivalent controllable electron beam as hot cathode and can stimulate for example quartz. They have an added advantage that the sample does not need to be coated so alternate optical microscopy and cathodoluminesce investigation is possible. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.86.150.46 (talk • contribs) check out www.citl.com beam current is independantly controllable from kv. also they have fitted edx detectors to chamber and achive results that compare directly with EM results.
