Reviewer: SilkTork (talk · contribs) 22:49, 4 May 2012 (UTC) I'll start reading over the next few days and then begin to make comments. I am a slow reviewer, so if there is a desire to have the review done soon, then let me know and I'll withdraw now. I tend to directly do copy-editing and minor improvements rather than make long lists, though sometimes I will make a general comment, especially if there is a lot of work needed. I see the reviewer's role as collaborative and collegiate, so I welcome discussion regarding interpretation of the criteria. SilkTork ✔Tea time 22:49, 4 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Query
  • Coverage. There is little mention of the music. And no detail on why the album is regarded as "one of the greatest reggae albums of all time" other than an assertion. There appear to be plenty of sources on Marley which should deal in depth on this album, plus some general works, such as 1001 Albums, which would have useful material - [1]. • Lead. To meet GA criteria 1(b), which relates to specific manual of style guidelines, the article needs to comply with the advice in WP:LEAD. That is, in addition to being an introduction, the lead needs to be an adequate overview of the whole of the article. As a rough guide, each major section in the article should be represented with an appropriate summary in the lead. Also, the article should provide further details on all the things mentioned in the lead. And, the first few sentences should mention the most notable features of the article's subject - the essential facts that every reader should know. SilkTork ✔Tea time 11:17, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • I have just researched the story about the cover and put in some cites. I couldn't find anything specific regarding the reason for the subsequent releases having a different cover. One source said that the cover fell apart - [2]; when there are differing comments on something the choice is to mention them all, or to mention none. It is possible that Chris Blackwell has not spoken about the reason for the cover change, so people have speculated and come up with "reasonable" explanations - the cover was too expensive, or it had problems such as falling apart, etc. SilkTork ✔Tea time 12:35, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
  • Prose. The prose needs to be clear - it needs to be easy to understand. The Background section is difficult if not impossible to understand. There are odd mistakes here and there - "In London, the Wailers discovered that Sims and Nash left the city for Miami, Florida" (missing "had" - now fixed); "The band asked promoter Brent Clarke in the hope that he would help them" (asked what?); "Clarke contacted Chris Blackwell from Island Records, who has released many Wailers singles in Great Britain" ("has" should be "had" - now fixed); etc. The article needs a good copy-edit. General comments
  • Reception. The juxtaposition of "Catch a Fire was greeted with positive critical reception." with "Vik Iyengar from Allmusic gave the album 5 out of total 5 stars", makes it appear as though Iyengar's review was contemporaneous with the release, even though Allmusic wasn't formed until l991, nearly 20 years after the album was released. I'll adjust. SilkTork ✔Tea time 11:06, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hold

[edit]

On hold for an initial seven days to allow the above points to be addressed. SilkTork ✔Tea time 12:53, 10 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

SilkTork, could you fail it please? I found material from Wailing Blues: The Story of Bob Marley's Wailers not covered here, so I want to expand it and then renominate. I am currently working on other articles and would like to work on this article in a relaxed mood. I shouldn't have nominate it so fast. Thanks for your GA comments; they will be very useful in future. Regards.--GoPTCN 12:02, 17 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, that's fine. I've just been doing some work in the hope of getting it tidied up for a pass, but I think it would require more than the few hours I have to spare. There are lots of sources on this album which are accessible via Googlebooks so I think it has the potential for significant development. Good luck!
