You have forgotten “Cat’s Paws” heels on men’s shoes!

Manipulation, not torture!

[edit]

(Lifted from the article:) "The Cat's Paw, an oil painting by Sir Edwin Landseer, depicting a cat being tortured by a monkey. <!-- Seriously. Why, who knows? -->"

I know why; the monkey is not actually torturing the cat but manipulating it to literally get the chestnuts out of the fire, referring to the fable The Monkey and the Cat by Jean de la Fontaine. That fable also spawned the expression the cat's paw for "dupe".
At last, all those years at Oxbridge not spent in vain! ;-) Maikel 20:41, 25 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I'm taking out the reference to Melville's 'Billy Budd' until someone can reference it properly. I can't find any reference anywhere that would support the inclusion, but I'd be glad to be proven wrong. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 92.8.48.220 (talk) 00:11, 5 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
