Kilpatrick site (CoI churchyard)
[edit]Per recent edits, and to confirm, the original "Kilpatrick" (Cill Phádraig) site is where the (now) CoI church/yard is sited. Rather than where the (newer) RC church is sited. Per related entries for:
ME012-016001-
(the churchyard): "The site of the medieval parish church of Kilpatrick (ME012-016----), now called Castletown Kilpatrick, is within a rectangular graveyard [..A late 15th-century] effigy (ME012-016002-) is built into the E wall of the present Church of Ireland church, which is now derelict and the fragment of a [also 15th-century] tomb-surround (ME012-016003-) is built into the church tower.
" And,ME012-016----
(the church): "A church at Kilpatrick is listed in the ecclesiastical taxation (1302-06) of Pope Nicholas IV (Cal. doc. Ire. 5, 261). Ussher (1622) describes the church and chancel as reasonably well repaired (Erlington 1864, xcvi), but according to Dopping (1682-5) St Patrick’s church had been in ruins since 1641 and the graveyard was not enclosed (Ellison 1973, 4). The church is depicted as a roofless ruin on the Down Survey (1656-8) barony map of Morgallion. The church was rebuilt in 1823 (Lewis 1837, 1, 310-11) but fabric of the older structure is incorporated in it.
