reverts
[edit]i have re-added some things deleted by the last revert because i think two references giving two points of view are better than one reference with a weasel word ("arguably"), the "hype" figure of 40,000 is actually a referenced figure and three working categories are better than a dead one. Trouble with this final sentence is that it is about the motive for thr CJA, not about Castlemorton fest, therefore it is off topic. personally i dislike the weasel word, the idea that the fest and media around it led to the act is true, but another editor put it there pointing out that this is interpretative stuff. are the two strands of info under "some....others " here in any meaningful opposition? it doesn't look so, the last sentence is an opinion of that law. widely reported police estimates publicised at the time of the fest put the numbers at 20,000 and upwards. there seems to be some estimate inflation. The site and its Dance zones was not so large ,40 000 stretches credulity, can you please quote where he says this to give some context, does he provide any sources, if not why should his estimate be considered factual and historical? as for the categories, sorry, i didn't spot that when reverting, originally not my work.Benny the wayfarer (talk) 09:41, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
- for me the final sentence is ok, it follows on from the preceding one which states that Castlemorton (among other factors) inspired the CJB.
- i checked the riddler site listed in external links and it is true what you say, the press estimates at the time did say 20,000. unfortunately i cant find a clipping with both the figure and the information we need to make a reference. the police routinely underestimate numbers attending illegal events - thats my POV, but we do have a referenced source saying the castlemorton figure was 40,000. it is in During, S. (2005) Cultural Studies: A Critical Introduction on Page 131, although now i do not have the book to hand to check where he got the figure from.
- i wonder if we can use foto from the clippings for the article - i will check that out now Mujinga (talk) 08:44, 20 March 2008 (UTC)
